¡Hola, me llamo Salo!
I am the founder of Use your Spanish. Allow me to share a brief overview of my story so that you can get to know me a bit better. I am originally from Colombia, a vibrant Spanish-speaking country in South America, renowned for its stunning biodiversity, its top-quality coffee and warm hospitality, among other things. (Did you know that Colombia boasts around 10% of the world's biodiversity? In fact, it is the second most biodiverse country in the world. It's truly a natural wonder!)
While I hold deep affection for my Colombian roots and feel very proud of the beauty of my country, my journey has taken me far from home. For almost a decade, I've had the opportunity to live in several European countries, where I have been pursuing my academic and professional aspirations.
I have spent a substantial part of that time in Spain, my favorite country in Europe. Living in various cities across Spain has provided me with invaluable opportunities to immerse myself in the intricacies of Spanish language and culture. As a native Spanish speaker myself and a language learning enthusiast, I've encountered distinct linguistic nuances that have challenged me to adapt to new ways of using my own language and have ignited my passion for teaching Spanish. This firsthand exploration has deepened my understanding of how diverse Spanish varieties work, enriching my perspective on the linguistic ties that bind the numerous Spanish-speaking nations, and informing my approach to teaching Spanish.
I recently finished my doctoral studies and decided to move to Belgium to establish my business and focus completely in helping Spanish learners around the world to improve their Spanish in a practical way through this wonderful project called "Used your Spanish".
An approach rooted in a simple idea: "use it or lose it"
Use your Spanish was born with the intention of helping intermediate Spanish learners overcome level stagnation and achieve fluency through a unique approach centered around six key aspects. These aspects are designed to enable students to actively apply what they learn immediately in real-life contexts, as we firmly believe that practical application is essential to achieve confidence and proficiency in a language.
